About Me

My name is Madyson Lira, and I am so happy you decided to check out my E-Portfolio. Throughout this website, you will find different aspects of my Student Affairs Journey, including looking at what the future holds.

My Why

For me, student affairs started with a pull toward people more than a defined career path. I’ve always been drawn to the moments where students are in transition: figuring out where they fit, what they believe, and whom they want to become. Even before I had the language for “student affairs,” I found myself in roles where I was helping create spaces for those moments to happen more safely and more intentionally.

My experiences in orientation, residential life, and student engagement really clarified that this is the work I care about. I’ve sat with students who were navigating uncertainty, homesickness, or conflict, and I’ve also been part of building programs that try to make the campus feel more human and connected. Over time, I’ve realized I’m less interested in one-off programming for its own sake and more interested in what it unlocks for students: confidence, connection, belonging, or even just the feeling that someone noticed they were there.

What has stayed with me most are the quieter, less visible moments. A student following up weeks later to say a conversation helped them reframe something. A student leader stepping into their voice for the first time. A moment of conflict turning into accountability and growth instead of disconnection. Those experiences have shaped how I understand impact in this field: it’s rarely immediate, but it is deeply meaningful.

At the core of my “why” is the belief that students deserve environments where they are both supported and challenged in thoughtful ways. I don’t see my role as having all the answers for students, but as helping create the conditions where they can explore, struggle, reflect, and grow. That balance, paired with accountability, is what keeps me committed to student affairs, and what continues to make this work feel both purposeful and personal for me.
